Seller’s guide

How to list like a pro on Refurnish.

Selling on Refurnish is simple - but a great listing can make all the difference. Whether you’re clearing out before a move or passing on a piece you’ve loved, here’s how to give your furniture the best chance of finding its next home.

Take great photos

A strong set of photos is the most important part of your listing - it’s what helps buyers imagine your item in their space. Aim for 5 to 6 well-lit images to give people a clear and honest look at what you’re selling.

Here’s what makes a great photo set:

  • Shoot in natural light - daylight near a window is ideal
  • Keep the setting clean and neutral - a tidy room or plain wall helps the item stand out
  • Capture the whole piece from a few feet back
  • Show every angle - front, sides, back, and any unique details
  • Include close-ups of any wear or imperfections - transparency builds trust
  • If you still have it, a screenshot from the original product listing can help buyers visualise the item at its best

Tip: Give the item a quick wipe down before you shoot - clean, uncluttered photos go a long way.

Write a clear, helpful listing

The more detail you provide, the faster your item is likely to sell. Why? Because everything you include feeds directly into our search filters - helping buyers find your listing when they’re looking for something just like it.

Here’s what you can add:

  • Listing title - e.g. “Mid-century oak sideboard” or “White boucle armchair”
  • Description - a few sentences about the style, condition, and story behind the piece
  • Type of item - sofa, mirror, chest of drawers, etc.
  • Condition - be honest: is it like new, or does it show signs of wear?
  • Dimensions - width, depth, and height
  • Brand - especially useful if it’s a known designer or retailer
  • Item age - even a rough estimate helps
  • Colour and material - e.g. wood, glass, ceramic
  • Home environment - was it in a pet-free or smoke-free home?
  • Marks or damage - let buyers know about any flaws upfront to avoid surprises later

Tip: Don’t worry about making it perfect - just include what you’d want to know if you were buying the item yourself.

Price it right

Price is often the biggest factor in helping your item sell. While buyers come to Refurnish for quality second-hand pieces, they’re still looking for a good deal.

Here’s how to approach pricing:

  • Check similar listings to get a feel for what similar items are selling for
  • Be honest about condition, age, and brand - these all affect value
  • Leave a little room for flexibility if you’re open to offers
  • If you’re looking for a quick sale, consider offering a bigger discount to help it move faster

Tip: You can always adjust your price after listing - sometimes even a small drop helps it reach new buyers.

Choose pick-up, delivery, or both

When listing your item, you can choose how it will be handed over to the buyer:

  • Pick-up only - the buyer collects the item directly from you
  • Delivery only - using our fully integrated delivery service
  • Both - giving buyers the flexibility to choose

Opting for delivery helps your item reach a wider audience - especially those who aren’t local. Our parcel delivery option includes:

  • Delivery to the buyer’s address via our trusted delivery partner
  • End-to-end tracking through the order page
  • Transparent pricing, calculated automatically at checkout

Sellers are responsible for packaging the item securely and should aim to dispatch the order within 2 days. You can either drop the parcel off at a DPD location or arrange a DPD collection directly.

Once the item has been sent, confirm dispatch by clicking ‘I’ve delivered this order’ on the order page. Buyers will be notified and can track the delivery from there.

Tip: Make sure the item is packaged carefully and ready to send to avoid delays or damage in transit.

Be responsive and honest

Buyers might get in touch with questions - whether it’s about colour, condition, or exact measurements. Responding promptly and helpfully builds trust, increases your chances of a sale, and often leads to better reviews.

Being upfront about any marks, wear, or quirks can actually work in your favour. Refurnish buyers appreciate honesty and detail - it helps set the right expectations and reduces the risk of issues after delivery.

If an item is found to be not as described and the buyer raises a dispute through our money-back guarantee, the seller will be responsible for the cost of return shipping.
